With a humble and deeply honored heart, I am so proud to present to the world the first dance film of: S trength C ourage A nd R esilience of the S oul ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ 7 artists with ancestral roots traversing the globe, connected through the stories of our S.C.A.R.S. (Strength, Courage, and Resilience of the Soul). We take you on our collective journey navigating through the pain, struggle, acceptance, and triumph of our scar stories/ what it means to be scarred. We hope that you will feel inspired and empowered to embrace and love your own S.C.A.R.S. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ My deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of the amazing artists and human beings that are sharing this space and journey together. •Samad Raheem Guerra (USA) @eternalwithoutwant •Sabina León Guzmán (Cuernavaca, Morelos, MÉXICO) @wasabi_leon •Fatou (Fama) Niang (Kaolack, Senegal) @famadancehall •Olivia Eng (Apple Valley, Ca/ USA/ Hong Kong @viiviiarte •Ricardo David Acosta Duarte (Zacapu, Michoacán, MÉXICO) @bichoacosta •Mohamed Ismat Mohamed (Mombasa, Kenya) @muhammadeysmert •Hanan Hameen (New York/Connecticut/African Diaspora) @lupie_licious_warrior ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ S.C.A.R.S. began as a personal, artistically therapeutic journey of healing, and learning to love and accept my own scars. It has evolved into a multi-faceted platform and ongoing project to connect, share, and support each others’ healing journeys through the intersection and sharing of artistic expression, dance, story-telling, healing practices and cross-cultural exchange. S.C.A.R.S. is deeply inspired by the Buddhist concept of “turning poison into medicine”; as well as “Kintsugi”, a Japanese art technique of mending broken objects with golden lacquer-embracing something flawed or imperfect as more valuable because of its history. The film series combines dance, spoken word poetry, music, personal interviews and expression, and photography. It is a labor of love, honoring our unique differences, roots, cultural influences, while also celebrating the experiences that deeply connect us by sharing the S.trength, C.ourage, A.nd R.esilience of our S.ouls. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ CONCEPT, PRODUCTION, AND EDITING BY: Olivia Eng FEATURED ARTISTS, CHOREOGRAPHY, AND POETRY BY: Samad Raheem Guerra // Emeryville, Ca, USA Sabina León Guzmán // Cuernavaca, Morelos, México Fatou (Fama) Niang // Kaolack, Senegal Olivia Eng // Apple Valley, Ca, USA and Hong Kong Ricardo David Acosta Duarte // Zacapu, Michoacán, México Mohamad Ismat Mohamad // Mombasa, Kenya Hanan Hameen // Bronx, New York, USA// African descent MUSIC BY: “Red Black & Green” by Pharoah Sanders “Miedo” by Julieta Venegas and Lenine “Mona Ki Ngi Xica”by Bonga “Bruce Lee Be Water Instrumental” words by Bruce Lee, composition by Curtis Brown “Agua” by Novalima (Lagartijeando Remix) “Ayub Ogada” by Kothbiro “Hanan music“ by “Faint” by Producer Lee VIDEOGRAPHY BY: Olivia Eng Fernando Isola Baidy Ba Ricardo Acosta Ahmed Omar PHOTOGRAPHY BY: Olivia Eng Ricardo David Acosta Duarte Baidy Ba Samia Salim ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ FOR MORE INFO about S.C.A.R.S.: Website: https://scarsart.wixsite.com/scars Facebook: SCARSArt Instagram: @scars.art.heals Email: scarsart.olivia@gmail.com ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ Check out the S.C.A.R.S. shirts being sold to raise money for artist stipends, further development of the platform, and future healing arts workshops!
