Cultivating Calendula Workshop.PNG

ScarsArt is facilitating a “Cultivating Calendula” community workshop at Lifelong Medical Center with Nanci Andrade on Saturday, October 1 @ 10-11:30-am

We’re looking for folks to join this FREE community workshop to learn about:

*Cultivating calendula from seed starts and grow bags; along with nourishing, harvesting, and drying to be able to make tea & healing oil/salve)

*Some maintenance and regenerative practices (making compost and creating DYI ollas to self-water plants!)

*We’re also focusing on the way in which this can be done in small and/or urban spaces, and using effective & accessible methods

*Future workshops will connect the different ways calendula can be used to benefit from it’s medicine.

Why calendula for this first workshop? All of the healing & soothing benefits below!

Calendula’s antifungal and antimicrobial properties help prevent infection and heal injuries to body tissues. It’s also known to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant components, which might help to fight cancer, protect against heart disease, and ease muscle fatigue. It can be used to relieve diaper rash soothing rinse for flea bites, eczema, scratches, scrapes, itchiness, & to help cleanse and heal minor wounds.

Thank you to MESA Program (@mesaprogram) for making this workshop possible through the Transfer of Knowledge (TOK) grant to support the Bay Area community and beyond!

During a hiatus after a series of traumatic surgeries for a congenital spine defect, she was inspired to begin developing the S.C.A.R.S. Olivia is currently studying Eastern and Western Herbal Medicine and Accupressure and has also recently completed certification courses in Agroecology and Permaculture. She engages in ongoing community volunteer work at Community Education Partnerships, UC Gill Tract Farm, Essential Food and Medicine, and Cob on Wood Encampment. Her vision is to continue building this platform to develop healing workshops and programs for underserved communities; as well as continue to create empowering art with and for the community.

She is deeply grateful to be dancing and performing again. Art is a healing practice for Olivia and she feels blessed to share her experiences and creative passion as a tool to overcome struggles, bring together community, connect people from around the world, and offer a platform for others to be inspired and heal.

Thank you community, for coming out to learn about the
healing benefits of calendula:)
